Athletic Academic Mentoring Program (AAMP)

WHAT IS AAMP?

The Solano College Athletic Academic Mentoring Program (AAMP) is designed to assist student-athletes in the academic transition from high school to college. Student-athletes from various teams are assigned a mentor to meet with on a regular basis who provides academic support and encouragement through frequent meetings, presentations, tutor assignment, and supervision of educational plans to maintain eligibility and timely graduation. The ultimate goal of AAMP is to increase the number of students who meet or exceed their educational goals as outlined in their Ed Plan (AA degree, Transfer, Certificate). We strive for retention, meeting the Ed Plan, degree completion, early intervention (“just in time” remediation), and transfer to four-year institutions.

Current NCAA Rules and regulations provide for stricter academic transfer rules and regulations. In order to provide more opportunities at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels, it is important for AAMP to provide and monitor individual road maps to ensure that each student-athlete is enabled an opportunity to succeed at the level of academics and athletics that they want to pursue.

Successful presentation topics so far have included Dating Violence, Substance Abuse/Sex Trafficking Awareness, Study Techniques, Canvas/Online Class Assistance, Preparing for Academic Success, How to Market Yourself to the Four-Year Level, Scholarship Opportunities, etc.
