Kayla Cardinal joins team as assistant coach in 2023

The Solano College soccer team remained undefeated in Bay Valley Conference play with a 5-0 win Tuesday at Merritt College.

The Falcons got on the scoreboard early in the fifth minute with a goal from Gabby Becerra, with Kate-Lynn Jimenez assisting.

In the 31st minute, Jimenez scored a goal of her own, this one assisted by Gabby Gonzalez and Aaliyah Padilla to make it 2-0.

Gonzalez scored the third goal for the Falcons, with an assist from Jimenez and Padilla in the 37th minute.

The first-half scoring was concluded when Jimenez scored again, this time with an assist from Briana Shafer in the 39th minute to make it 4-0.

Jimenez then pulled off the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 42nd minute.

Julia Villareal got the win in the net by playing 70 minutes, while Jimenez played in goal the last 20 minutes of the game.

Solano overall record improves to 3-6-1, with a Friday match at Mendocino College coming up next.

Solano also announced that Karla Cardinal will be an assistant coach with the team this year.

Cardinal, the daugher of head coach Jeff Cardinal, played two seasons at Solano in 2018 and 2019 and transferred in 2020 to Bushnell University (formerly Northwest Christian University) where she was named to the All CCC (Cascade Collegiate Conference) Academic team. She had eight goals and 38 assists in her time at Solano.
