Oakland, Calif. - Sophomore Nik Dodson led the Falcons at the plate as the Solano baseball team opened up Bay Valley Conference play with a 9-3 win over Laney on Thursday afternoon.

Dodson went 3-of-5 with a double, adding two RBI and a pair of runs scored. He also earned a walk in the outing. Sophomore Gannon Goldensoph backed him up with a 2-of-3 performance, tallying a RBI and counting a pair of sacrifice hits.

On the mound, sophomore lefty Alex Clouthier (2-2) earned the win on 7.2 innings pitched. He allowed three earned runs, and freshman Edgar Aqui Cruz entered the game, throwing 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings.

Solano (5-11, 1-0) hosts Laney in the second game of the three-game series on Friday, Mar. 8 at 2 p.m.
