Falcons Open Conference Play with Pair of Dominating Wins over Yuba

Fairfield, Calif. - The Solano softball team defeated Yuba in a doubleheader to open conference play in dominating fashion, 16-2 and 15-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshmen Steele Shumway and Morgan Gant both were perfect at the plate in the first game with Shumway going 4-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs. Gant went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

In the second game, sophomores Cecily Kaluza and Caitlin Aston each went 2-for-2 with Kaluza earning a double, two RBI, and two runs. Aston scored three runs and reached on a base on balls.

Kaluza (2-3) and freshman Lucia Ramirez (1-0) earned the wins for the Falcons in the circle. Ramirez threw a one-hitter in the complete-game shutout with four strikeouts. Kaluza threw three innings, allowing both earned runs with a pair of hits.

Solano (8-12, 2-0) returns to competition at Cosumnes River on Saturday, Mar. 14. The team will face the host and Cabrillo College beginning at 10 a.m.
