Coaching Philosophy

If you come to Solano, I will help you reach your goals both academically and athletically. My goal for all student-athletes is that they transfer to a four-year university on time. It is important that my student-athletes grow as individuals while also building their leadership skills.

I push my student-athletes in the classroom and in the pool and would like to see my team win the state scholar athlete award. It is very important that my teams achieve team unity as a whole through team bonding activities and getting to know each other on road trips. I also believe this is possible while also giving back to the community through community service. Athletes need to be leaders not only in their athletic field, but also in the community where they live.

Athletically, I would like to reach the state tournament every year and showcase our talent and the sport of water polo.

Coaching Background

Coach Parrish grew up in Ventura and attended Buena High School and Ventura College before completing his education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Parrish is a graduate of Ventura College and a men's water polo team alumni. In 1999, Parrish was named coach of the year in the Western States Conference in leading the Ventura women's water polo team to a fifth place finish at the state tournament. In 2000, the Ventura men took sixth place in Southern California under Parrish's leadership. He hopes to build on Solano's recent success in water polo as the Falcons placed sixth in 2004 at the state tournament.

As a member of the 1985 men's water polo team, Parrish received the most valuable athlete award. Parrish coached the Cal Poly, SLO women's club water polo team from 1996-97. Cal Poly's teams finished in the top 20 in the nation for all collegiate club and varsity programs. Parrish was the assistant coach for the men's water polo team at Ventura College in 1994 and 1995. Before joining the coaching staff at Ventura College in 1994, Parrish was the head varsity water polo coach at Newbury Park High in 1993. He served as the assistant water polo coach at Buena from 1989-92. Parrish also brings officiating experience to the Solano aquatics program. He is an NCAA and United States Water Polo official with a great deal of experience. Parrish also officiates at the high school level and he was chosen to officiate the CIF State Boys Championship game in 1997. As a player, coach and official, Parrish brings a great deal of experience to the Solano aquatics program.

Parrish has an extensive masters swimming and competitive ocean swimming background. He has also coached 6 All-Americans in water polo and one in All-American in Swimming and Diving.

Academics is a big reason to come to Solano. A student-athlete will be held accountable for his or her academics here. We will help the athlete graduate on time and transfer to a four-year university.
