Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener to Cosumnes River

Fairfield, Calif. - Despite a pair of goals by freshman Karla Cardinal, the Solano women's soccer team came up short in a 4-3 match against Cosumnes River on a blustery Tuesday afternoon in the team's season opener.

After a 3-2 halftime score in favor of the Hawks, Cardinal scored unassisted in the 64th minute. But Cosumnes River was able to break the knotted score in the 78th minute.

Freshman Isabel Olmedo scored the team's other goal from a very difficult angle in the 26th minute. And freshman keeper Kirstyn Gottschall earned 11 saves in the complete-match appearance.

The Falcons (0-1) head to Modesto next on Friday, Aug. 31 for a 4 p.m. match.
