Falcons Outlast Marin in Five-Set Thriller

Kentfield, Calif. - Freshman Sammy Brown recorded a double-double as the Falcons outlasted Marin in a five-set thriller on Wednesday evening.

Set scores were 19-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Brown posted 14 kills, 15 digs, and four blocks for a solid all-around match with freshman Chris Rigney Cruz adding nine kills and five blocks. Freshman Dani Rydjord tallied eight kills.

Defensively, freshman middle blocker Gina Garlick was a strong force at the net with seven blocks, while sophomore Kailyn Kaiser held down the backcourt defense with 20 digs, adding a pair of aces. 

Sophomore Anaya Rodriguez posted 22 assists with 10 digs, four aces, and four blocks.

"It was a hard fight," Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams said. "It honestly could have gone either way, but we fought from the beginning in the fifth set and kept the lead the entire way. We gained our momentum and our blocking started to work for us in sets four and five. The entire team contributed to this win."

Solano (11-11, 4-0) heads to Los Medanos next on Friday, Oct. 15 for a 6 p.m. match.
