Oakland, Calif. - Sophomore Vanessa Hughes scored 13 points off the bench, but the Solano women's basketball team was edged in a buzzerbeater, 55-54, at Merritt on Wednesday evening.

Solano trailed by two going into the half after a rough 20 minutes of shooting and defensive miscues. The Falcons outscored Merritt 16-11 in the third, but a Merritt bucket with one second remaining sealed the final outcome.

Starters freshman Lexi Derf and sophomore Jada Scott added 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Scott earning four steals. Hughes led the team with nine boards.

The Falcons (8-8, 3-1) return home to host Marin next on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
