Softball Celebrates Sophomores with Sweep of Mendocino

Fairfield, Calif. - The Solano softball team celebrated the careers of its seven sophomores with a doubleheader sweep of Mendocino, 12-4 (in five innings) and 8-5, on Thursday afternoon.

The Falcons (19-13, 12-0) not only honored their sophomores' athletic accomplishments but also the fact that all seven are graduating and transferring after this year. Alyssa Castaneda will be transferring to Adams State University and majoring in nursing with a minor in sports psychology. Aleya Turner will be transfering to Concordia University (Ore.) and majoring in psychology. Casi Yarrow will be moving on to Eastern Nazarene College and studying criminal justice and statistics. Alaena Selden will be majoring in history education at Delaware State University. Jamie Batto will be heading to the Academy of Art in San Francisco and studying 3D animation. Courtney McGraw will be joining Yarrow at Eastern Nazarene College to study psychology. And Adriana Montuya will also be joining Yarrow and McGraw at Eastern Nazarene College to study psychology.

Solano recorded five extra-base hits in the first game against Mendocino, led by McGraw and freshman Hailey Enriquez's two-run homer in the second inning. Montuya improved to 8-3 on the season in the circle with the complete-game win with five strikeouts.

In game two, the Falcons counted five extra-base hits again, all doubles, led by Selden's two, adding three RBI. Freshman Britney Czelusniak (3-4) earned the win, entering the game in the fourth inning.

Solano looks to remain undefeated in Bay Valley Conference play as it closes out the regular season against Contra Costa in a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 19.
