Falcons Upended by American River and Delta in Final Matches of Elite Delta Tournament

Stockton, Calif. - The Solano women's volleyball team was upended in the final day of the Elite Delta College Tournament, falling to American River and Delta, on Saturday.

The Falcons fell in three to both opponents. Set scores were 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 against the Beavers and 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 against the Mustangs.

Freshman Sammy Brown paced the Falcon offense against ARC, counting seven with 10 digs and an ace. Sophomore Kailyn Kaiser backed her up defensively with eight digs, while freshmen Dani Rydjord and Chris Rigney Cruz tallied six and five kills, respectively. At the net, sophomore Mylei Moli earned four kills with two blocks, and freshman setter Jeryn Baldonado earned 12 assists with two aces.

"We played very well in the first two sets," Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams said. "I was so proud to see the improvements in just one day."

Rydjord reached double figures in the kills column against Delta, tallying 10 kills. Brown was close behind with a near double-double on a nine kill, 10 dig outing. Defensively, Ridney Cruz led the efforts at the net with a solo block and three block assists of the team's two solo blocks and 11 block assists. In the backcourt, Kaiser earned 12 digs with freshman Crystal Carroll and sophomore Anaya Rodriguez each earning six digs. Rodriguez and Baldonado split setting duties with Rodriguez counting 12 assists with six kills and Baldonado tallying 13 assists.

"We lost matches this weekend, but we gained important elements as a team that can't be taught unless you push yourself outside of your comfort zone and play tougher opponents. We improved on our backcourt defense, working together on the block, team aggressiveness, and communication.

Solano (4-8) returns home to host the Solano Classic #2 on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The Falcons will face American River for the third time in less than a week at 4 p.m. before taking on Santa Rosa at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but masks are required.
