Five Named All-BVC; Brown Tabbed MVP

Fairfield, Calif. - Five Solano women's volleyball players were All-Bay Valley Conference (BVC) with freshman Sammy Brown earning Most Valuable Player honors, announced Monday.

Joining Brown on the first team are sophomore Kailyn Kaiser and freshman Dani Rydjord. Earning second team honors were sophomore Mylei Moli and freshman Chris Rigney Cruz.

"It is nice to get the recognition for the team and our players, though with this team we were very solid all the way around," Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams said. "I wish more of our players could receive these honors. Going 14-0 and winning the banner four years in a row is not an easy task. We did this as a team, and I feel privileged coaching my entire team."

Brown was ranked second in total kills and total digs, fourth in kills per set and hitting percentage, sixth for aces per set, and seventh for digs per set. She was named the CCCWVCA NorCal Player of the Week for week 11. Overall, she amassed 315 kills, 339 digs, 61 aces in 103 sets played at outside hitter.

Kaiser was the starting libero for the Falcons all season, ranking first in the conference in total digs, third in digs per set, and fourth in service aces per set. She served as co-captain and led the team with 451 digs, 65 assists, and 69 service aces in 109 sets. She will be moving on to Sacramento State to study criminal justice.

Rydjord earned first team honors at outside hitter, ranking second in hitting percentage, third in total kills, and fifth in kills per set in the BVC. Overall, she tallied 307 kills, 117 digs, 30 blocks, and 33 aces in 107 sets.

"Sammy is a solid player and does her job in both the front and back rows," Willams said. "Kailyn was clutch for us all season with steady passing, defense, and serving. Dani was a strong outside hitter for us all season, adding more tools to her arsenal and making her hard to defend. All three of these young women are well deserving of first team honors. They were solid for us all season."

Moli played most of the season at middle blocker but also was a utility player that could play outside our opposite. In 107 sets played, she earned 169 kills, 51 blocks, and 43 aces. She was co-captain this season and hopes to continue her athletic career as she moves on to study zoology.

Rigney Cruz was a starting middle blocker all season, leading the conference in hitting percentage and ranking fifth in blocks per set. Overall she played in 102 sets, racking up 150 kills, 60 blocks, 23 aces, and hitting .307.

"Mylei is a very solid athlete and has been a big asset to us for two seasons,' Williams said. "Chris has a strong presence in the middle and hits an aggressive ball, but she is also smart at placing the ball."

Solano finished the regular season 21-11, 14-0 and awaits its postseason fate to be announced on Thursday, Nov. 18.
