No. 18 Women's Volleyball Lands Six Conference Honors; Del Rio and Williams Earn Top Awards

Fairfield, Calif. - Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams and sophomore outside hitter Haley Del Rio and took home top honors to lead the team's six Bay Valley All-Conference accolades, announced Monday.

Williams tallied her fourth Coach of the Year honor (2006, 2013, 2017, 2019) after leading the Falcons to a perfect 14-0 conference run without dropping a set along the way.

"We are so happy to get many of our players recognized in the conference for their success and hard work," Williams said. "I am so proud of all of them! It's not easy to go undefeated in any conference."

Del Rio was named the BVC Most Valuable Player after leading the conference with 4.8 kills per set, good for second in kills (174) and hitting percentage (.401). At the state level during the regular season, she was ranked sixth for kills per set (4.18) and 10th in kills (364). She added 239 digs over the course of the season, 119 in BVC play only.

Freshmen middle blocker Lindsey McLaughlin and setter Kayla Somontan earned the team's first team nods.

McLaughlin led the BVC in hitting percentage (.459), blocks per set (1.10), and she was second in the conference for aces per set (.770) with 67 total aces. On the state level, she was second in hitting percentage (.459) and fifth in the state in blocks per set (1.10).

K. Somontan led the team with 316 assists in conference play, good for second in the conference in assists per set, with 673 total on the season. She added 142 digs overall.

And sophomores setter/defensive specialist Allora Somontan and libero Ixchel Moreno rounded out the team's honors with second team accolades.

A. Somontan split time at setter and defensive specialist, leading the team in aces with 43 in BVC play and 56 overall. She set a school record with 17 aces on October 23 against Contra Costa, and she was solid defensively with 141 digs.

Moreno earned her second BVC honor after being named to the honorable mention squad in 2018. She moved positions from outside hitter to libero for the 2019 season with 233 digs and was one of the team's top servers.

The Falcons end the 2019 regular season with a 22-6 overall mark and await their postseason fate, to be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
