Gottschall, Olmedo, Cardinal Named Top in Conference; Five Earn All-Conference

Fairfield, Calif. - Freshmen Kirstyn Gottschall, Isabel Olmedo, and Karla Cardinal earned top honors in the conference, while five more were named to All-Bay Valley Conference (BVC) teams, announced Wednesday.

Freshmen Shelby Nichols and Melinda Rashidian were tabbed first team honorees, while freshmen Grace Lee, Jaylynn DelRosario, and Isabella Kelly-Fondersmith added second team accolades to their resumes.

Gottschall was named the overall BVC Most Valuable Player in the conference, finishing the regular season ranked seventh in the state at goalkeeper with 138 saves. She also was the Solano Athletics September Athlete of the Month. Olmedo earned Forward of the Year honors, scoring 22 goals, good for eighth in the state, and eight assists. And Cardinal rounded out the group as Midfielder of the Year with five goals and 23 assists, good for runner-up in the state.

Nichols added 14 goals and seven assists on the season at forward, while Rashidian scored one goal and added a pair of assists at defender.

Lee scored two goals and dished two assists at midfielder, DelRosario scored 14 goals with eight assists at forward, and Kelly-Fondersmith scored one goal for the Falcons with 16 shots on goal on the season.

The Falcons concluded their 2018 campaign with a 9-7-3 overall record, 9-2-1 in conference - good for second.
