Fairfield, Calif. - Sophomore Brandon Herter went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI, but the Solano baseball team came up short against Diablo Valley, 15-9, on Wednesday afternoon.
Herter reached twice on walks, while scoring a run. Sophomore Wellington Balsley also had a solid outing at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs, and three walks.
Solano chipped away at Diablo Valley's lead late in the game, but high-scoring fifth and seventh innings boosted the Vikings.
Sophomore righty Connor Caporale (0-1) was charged with the loss after throwing 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out a pair.
Solano (1-1) heads to San Mateo next on Thursday, Jan. 30 for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
